The Royal Danish Embassy in the Republic of Serbia, in co-operation with ISAC Fund and the European Movement in Serbia, initiated a project Meet Europe in Denmark“. The signing of the Visa Facilitation Agreement between Serbia and the European Union, as well as initialising of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, represent relevant political steps for Serbia towards the joining the EU. Therefore, it is of significance to make the EU more accessible and closer to the Serbian people, so that the youth of Serbia will also have an understanding of what Europe is all about. Production company Intermedia Network joined this program and it produced a TV documentary on it. Through the national and regional TV stations coverage, the documentary reached the goal to present the EU to the domestic audience. Namely, a group of 50 high-school students from Serbia had the opportunity to spend a week in Denmark. The students visited a Danish high-school and thus learnt something about Danish educational system and met their Danish friends. Also, the hosts organized visits to state institutions, such as the Danish Parliament, and various leisure activities purposed to give a first hand impression of Denmark as a European country. Our intention is to make the idea of the EU more realistic and perceptible, so as to incite the young to comprehend diversity of other European countries. Further more, we wish to spread knowledge on institutional structure of a member state and meet Serbian students with Danish nation and its culture.
Denmark became a member state in 1973 and it is an obvious example on how European countries achieve far more in mutual co-operation, than separately. Denmark, as well as Serbia, is a small country. Additionally, although in alliance with much bigger countries, Denmark managed to preserve its characteristics, proving that the EU appreciates diversities.
